Hello and welcome back to TD School. In the previous episode, we reviewed some of the benefits of sanctioning your event. Today, we're going deeper into the types and benefits of PDGA sanctioning. Sanctioning a disc golf event makes it an official PDGA calendar event, incorporating scores and stats into the PDGA's historical database. By sanctioning event, it gains visibility on pdga.com, the leading disc golf website, and appears in event searches for players seeking competition. Additionally, sanctioning provides liability insurance for North American events, which is often required by parks. PDGA members also benefit from having the results and round ratings tracked for their player record, earning points towards qualifying for PDGA Majors and end of the year awards. But how you go about sanctioning and what type of sanctioning should you choose? There are many kinds of events available to sanction from the PDGA, from local leagues and C-Tiers up to Pro Tour, Elite Series events and PDGA Majors. Sanctioning is also available for doubles, teams and other alternative formats, although round ratings may not apply. When sanctioning an event, you will need to determine which sanctioning tier you would like to request. The sanctioning tier will determine certain costs and event standards like the sanctioning fee, how long the event should be, how much cash needs to be added to the event purse, and certain requirements regarding payouts. The event tier will also factor into scheduling considerations as each tier requires certain minimum distances between events. For example, a C-Tier event can't be held at the same time within 150 miles of a PDGA Major. This rule is in place to make sure that overlapping events don't detract from each other and to give the upper tier events the attention and resources that they need. The PDGA Sanctioning Agreement is a web-based form on the PDGA website. The form asks for your PDGA number, contact information, event format, location, and confirmation that you have cleared your date and location with your state, regional or national coordinator. You'll also be agreeing to follow PDGA rules and guidelines at your event.
