Why we should stop caring about ratings
Discover why ratings shouldn't be the sole focus in disc golf. The sport is missing a crucial element: storytelling. Unlike other sports, where players' personalities and struggles are often highlighted, disc golf's narrative is dominated by who wins. This video explores the idea of creating more relatable storylines, such as underdog tales like "the local who's just two shots away from qualifying for USC." The hosts discuss how this type of storytelling can resonate with audiences, unlike the distant goal of becoming the best golfer of all time, like Jordan Thomas or Brooks Keopan. They also examine the flaws in the handicap system, which can lead to sandbagging and unfair advantages. By looking beyond ratings, disc golf can tap into a more authentic and engaging fan experience, with players like Mark Wahlberg showcasing their skills on courses where handicaps are relatively low.
Join [Player 1] & [Player 2] as they discuss letting go of ratings pressure in disc golf, focusing on what truly matters.

i think we need to find more story lines in disc golf right now there's not enough story lines it's really all everything everyone talks about is who wins and that's it and you can talk about that sure but in every other sport there's so many story lines so let's talk about the local that all of a sudden he's two shots back even though he's 20 shots back from paul he's two shots away from potentially qualifying for usc yeah yeah that's that's a story that people want to because they can get light to it they can relate to that yeah yeah i mean i think no one's going to be able to relate to a 550 foot monster that makes everything inside of 60 feet yeah it's awesome to watch and you need to have those people but you also need to have something that you can have other people relate to yeah i think the ratings thing because like so jordan thomas or brooks kept they probably know thomas is not a real person justin thomas you had two choices jordan thomas might be the best golfer of all time but okay so any of them they probably know they're handicapped no no they don't they don't have it they don't trust when rom goes out and plays practice rounds he's not inputting that score you have to like you have to like purposely get a handicap yeah you have to submit right actually of course exactly okay so people like try like really hard like there's certain courses that it's easier to get good handicaps than others correct that's why you'll watch like they do like the celebrity tournaments and you'll see mark wahlberg is playing off of a 12. but he's a way better golfer than some other dude you know the handicap system is is flawed as well yeah if you go over to golf they'll tell you how flawed it is yeah because you'll have guys sandbagging and get into a tournament be like i have 20 strokes and then you see them swing and you're like bro you're not 20. you can purposely give yourself correct and you could do the same thing in disc golf yeah that's why you see guys playing in certain certain divisions divisions and just just absolutely destroying everyone you're like there's no way so...
