Birdie or Die in Disc Golf
Birdie or Die in Disc Golf: Finding the Right Balance Between Challenge and Entertainment. Disc golf enthusiasts have long debated whether events like Birdie or Die prioritize entertainment over challenge. The conversation is not unique to disc golf, as it's also relevant to traditional ball golf. Proponents of a more entertaining format argue that courses should be designed to allow players to compete at a higher level, potentially with scores in the 10-under par range. Others believe that the name "Birdie or Die" suggests a need for winners to struggle and shoot par, making it easier for viewers to appreciate their achievements. Disc golf expert discusses the challenges of finding this balance, particularly in light of advancements in equipment technology. He references the Memorial disc golf course as an example where the line can be drawn between challenging and frustratingly easy. The conversation highlights the need for a mix of competitive events that showcase high scores alongside those that highlight individual struggles.
