welcome everybody cameron mckillin here on behalf of the pdga day one of the 2021 pdj world championships was a scorcher today in ogden the temperature almost hit triple digits as the world's best disc golfers battled it out in the hot utah sun the fpo field kicked things off at the fort where sarah gilpin took an early lead and finished two under to tie haley king for second place we made sure to get a quick exclusive with sarah before she headed off to cool down after her hot round um i was just trying to stay in the moment and not get too hung up when i made a mistake and just try to save my cars where i couldn't take birdies where they came along did have a little hiccup on hole nine but that was the hardest part i've ever saved it's amazing unexpected um i kind of want to cry right now i think i figured i was shooting probably the best rounds of my life when you guys showed up defending world champion paige pierce was also in full form today as she chases down world title number six finishing three under to secure an early lead in the tournament paige pierce had this to say after her round you know i don't even really care what the scores are right now it's it's a long tournament you know after tomorrow still it's gonna feel like we have a whole tournament to go so uh you know whatever i can do the first two rounds to kind of give me a head start would feel good but you know i feel like i'm in control i feel like i'm in a good position and i feel patient on the mpo side the men started their week in utah at mulligans exposed to the elements as they played the longer and more open of the two courses calvin heinberg and kevin jones finished the first round tied for third place at nine under calvin had this to say about his first round um yeah it was pretty quick um felt pretty good on the front nine a little lackluster on the back nine but can't be upset with 900 i'm not really worried about the lead at this point um don't need to really worry about that until final day but uh yeah i...
