I address the 60mph rumors. Do I throw faster than 60?

Curious about real-world disc golf speeds? This session takes a hands-on approach to testing whether a player’s max velocity truly sits at the rumored 60 mph or if recent form tweaks have pushed those numbers higher. Using a TechDisc radar gun, the thrower measures both speed and spin rates to provide a data-driven look at current performance. The footage begins with a standard four-step run-up, recording a baseline speed of 57 mph before increasing effort to reach 61.4 mph. Beyond simple velocity, the video dives into the mechanics of spin, highlighting a specific RPM increase from 1,374 to 1,400 by adjusting wrist position. The presenter explains that keeping the wrist higher during the drive phase prevents a rolling motion that typically dissipates spin, offering a practical technique for maintaining disc stability and control. While previous experiments with extreme wrist flicks reached 1,600 RPM, that method was abandoned due to accuracy loss. This detailed breakdown serves as a useful guide for players looking to optimize their backhand throw. By balancing high spin rates with consistent speed, the video offers insights into how subtle adjustments in reach-back and wrist management can enhance overall drive performance on the course.

I don't want to. >> Okay, I just pulled up to the get out and throw disc golf shop. We got the tech disc out and I'm going to see how far, not how far, but how fast I can throw. I've been telling people it's 60 miles an hour, 61, 62, typically 60, which I think is the lowest on tour, but I haven't done it in a while. So, I'm going to give it a go. I'm also going to be testing out to see if I can increase my spin rate with a couple technique changes. Also, uh if I can increase my uh miles per hour with a couple tweaks. >> But right now, I'm pretty comfortable with the way that I'm throwing. All right, first shot. >> See where we're at right now. Four step run up. >> Okay, just a little easy 400. 57 miles per hour. So, I'm right I'm right on target with what I thought I was throwing. I'll speed it up just a little bit here to where this is my No, no, stay here. This is my typical power and it did speed up a little bit. And that's 61 450 1374 miles per hour. So, with my form change recently, I just put it away from my body on my reach back. So, when I'm coming through, instead of wrapping kind of getting back here, I'm trying to take it out a little more so I lose m. But my 1374 is pretty high. My highest is 1600, but that was with like something that I did with my wrist, and I'm not doing that anymore because I started losing accuracy over time. smoked. So, I'm going to do the little trick to try to put more spin on and then I'll Oh, nice burst. And then I'll show you what I'm doing to do that. Wonder what my wobble was. 1.2. Probably pretty low. Yeah. So, I gained I went to 1,400. And obviously same pretty much identical as the last one. So what I'm doing there is the gain RPMs. I'm actually just instead of keeping this down a a bunch, I'm actually pulling it up. And then I'm doing that because once I come through, I notice that I kind of do this rolly thing with my wrist. And when I do that, I lose...
