Ricky Wysocki on his approach to fighting Lyme Disease and touring after the Dynamic Discs Open
Ricky Wysocki opens up about his personal journey fighting Lyme disease and returning to competitive disc golf. Last October, he received a diagnosis of the European strain of Lyme disease contracted while traveling in Europe. Instead of opting for traditional treatment with doxycycline, which is most effective within a week of diagnosis, Wysocki chose to adopt a holistic approach known as functional medicine. Working with nutritionists and focusing on getting his body's immune system back in balance, he aims to allow his own body to fight the disease off. With 99% recovery rate reported, Wysocki shares insights into his calculated decisions behind skipping medication and emphasizes the importance of patience and time for full recovery. The Dynamic Discs Open has seen him return to form, with a renewed focus on training and preparation during his quarantine 2.0 offseason.

so yeah i got lyme disease and last year 2019 out of in about october early october september right around there is when i got kind of diagnosed with it and really found out i had it i got it in europe and so i got a european strand of lyme disease which there are different strands and different uh viruses that cause it so in in short there's you know european version of lime and american american version so there's different game plans as far as medically how you approach each one based on when you catch when you catch it uh you know doxycycline's the medicine that you normally take when you do get diagnosed with it and it were is most it works best within like a week of getting diagnosed with lyme and so that's a big reason i didn't take the medication is because that i was past the week where the doxie would have been the most efficient and so that's what a lot of people don't realize is that's one of the big reasons and most people in in on the internet are giving me crap for not doing it but they don't see the big picture and all the different behind the scenes uh calculated decisions that went into me not taking it it wasn't like i just did it for fun you know so my next step was going to holistic uh what they call functional medicine approach by uh you know working with nutritionists and get my body and my immune system in a state to where it can actually fight the lime off itself and that's exactly what's happening right now and that's my goal and i feel like i'm you know 99 back to normal and i feel like yeah i haven't played to my best of my ability the first couple tournaments of the year after i got lime because i wasn't fully healed it takes just like anything it takes a long time for your body to recover from such a detrimental disease and so yeah people are skeptical of how you know my my performance level will be coming back but that's why i've been working out practicing and the quarantine 2.0 offseason 2.0 has been a great great uh you know blessing in disguise so to say for me to be able to to...
