Ricky Wysocki Teases The New Orbit Sockibomb Slammer, Balancing Media & Style Changes Since 2016
Ricky Wysocki shares insights on his approach to playing at Empire Polo Club, particularly in windy conditions. Speaking with Brian Earhart of DGN, Ricky discusses his past performances on the course, including consistent finishes just shy of victory. He reveals that his struggles have been largely due to getting too aggressive in the wind, resulting in three-putts. Ricky attributes his success to playing smart and strategically aggressive, taking into account the course and weather conditions. Notably, he has observed a change in his putting technique, often employing spin putts instead of longer jump putts from Circle 2. This adjustment is likely a result of frustration with putting in windy situations, where precision is key. The conversation also touches on Ricky's mental approach to competition, emphasizing the importance of adapting to each round and course-specific requirements. With his experience and knowledge, Ricky expects this will be an advantage for him as he moves forward in his career.

hello ricky brian earhart with dgn here since you won your first world title here on this course in 2016 your finishes on this course have been third second second fourth second consistent but so close to the win and just not quite there to break through what mistakes along the way when you look back at those performances we're keeping you from breaking through and taking another victory down on this property yeah it's actually funny because a lot of you know putting just isn't a variable when it's this windy and so it's something aware of over the years i've just got hyper aggressive in the wind and three putted too many times and it sounds funny because normally that's where i separate myself but out here you can separate yourself in the opposite way if you go for too many putts and blow by the basket and have 30 foot comeback putts for par all day that's a long day and so i remember doing that a lot in the previous years that you have a 30-foot headwind putt and it's 30-mile headwind you're not going to make that very often don't care who you are and so i think it's a lot about just being smart when you go for shots and just being strategically aggressive and knowing that you're not going to be scoring these 10 or 12 under rounds out here and especially when it's 30 mile hour winds it's just it's just not a thing and so you you really have to you know play to what the course and what the conditions give you and i think that i've over the years me playing in all these different you know windy situations here at emporia i've i know what kind of scores i need to shoot to win and and so i think that's going to be a huge advantage for me definitely um speaking of the windy putting i made an observation just kind of watching you recently you've been switching from a longer jump putt from circle two and you've been standing and delivering a spin putt a lot more often than i've seen you in the past is that because of your frustrations putting in the wind from longer distances yeah i mean i think that's one thing that you know my putt's not the best in the wind...
