Jeff Spring Shares How The DGPT Found And Ran Portland Open & The Relationship With Golf Courses
Jeff Spring shares his insights on the DGPT's involvement in running the Portland Open and its relationship with local golf courses. A former event founder, Spring discusses how the tour owns and operates the event, differing from other Elite Series Tour events that typically rely on local organizing committees or businesses to host them. The Portland Open has become a beloved fixture in the disc golf community, thanks in part to the tireless efforts of Stumptown Disc Golf and their 140-strong volunteer team. Spring reveals that the tour provides significant resources to support the event, including delivering 36 baskets for the local course. With its unique blend of community engagement and professional expertise, the Portland Open has become a standout event on the DGPT calendar, featuring world-class golfers like Spring and others.

hello we are here at the portland open with jeff spring starting off our 2022 press conference jeff how does it feel to be back in portland oregon it feels wonderful this is one of my favorite corners of the world the pacific northwest reminds me of home um from vermont so the green mountains i'm always missing them and uh it's it's great to be up here where there's mountains big forests a lot to do outside and of course some of the best disc golf in the world and we know that the tour actually owns the portland open how does that defer from other events on the elite series tour yeah we we do own and operate it you know i actually founded the portland open in 2019 um with the portland open team you're a part of it zoe dustin nate val down with bevel and of course great history uh world champions and disc golf um but yeah the the the disc golf pro tour back in 2019 didn't have an event um in portland and the connectivity that we saw between you know the relationships uh and the amazing golf and and the volume of players in the area kind of turned into um a beautiful thing when we founded it in 2019 and when i became ceo and director of the tour later that year part of that was to transfer some of the events like the green mountain championship and the portland open that i had founded over to the tour and so we could run them um as one unit and that that differs because normally we work with a local organizing committees or businesses that own events themselves or the historically founded events and it's not that different stumptown disc golf is here working really hard 140 volunteers for this event so they're a stakeholder in the event we're delivering i think 36 baskets for their club through through this event and they've turned out in force to really support it so it is a little bit different um in that we have our our hands around it and our fingerprints all over it and uh we put a little bit more tour resources into it well thank you for that description um we know that last year we were on i believe it was the west side this year...
