welcome back to gatekeeper media's new year's resolutions in the general population a lot of people use exercise diet clean living as part of their new year's resolutions i hope if you've done that it hasn't worn off by now in the disc golf world i think pros as well as fans are coming around to the idea that disc golfers are athletes and need to treat themselves as such disc golf strong and other programs are helping to integrate ways of exercising into just playing having a regular stretching cardio and strength routine just as a minor part of your practice can really improve your injury prevention as well as your potential as a disc golfer so i strongly encourage you to not just think about what you're doing on the course but what you're doing off the course to become a better disc golf athlete there are a lot of places that are better resources than me an engineer and goof off part-time disc golfer to find ways to exercise and cross-train as disc golfers we put a lot of stress on very particular parts of our bodies for me a right hand backhand dominant player my entire right side from my shoulder to my forearm to my obliques to my hip are always much stronger but much tighter than my left so i have to put a lot of work into being more balanced starting with my left side for single side exercises to focusing on not letting my right side dominate when i'm doing something that is bilateral so exercises like yoga stretching cycling running anything that is cross-training that makes your body think about exercise differently and learn how to adapt to that we'll help you become a better and more injury resistant disc golfer you win the game for this year when your new year's resolution for disc golf can include setting aside an occasional session to cross train this is going to help you be less prone to injury and help you reach your potential better for disc golf
