welcome back to gatekeeper media's new year's resolutions it is january 26th and today i want you to find a basket that's on a slope something that you can putt at from uphill from downhill and from both sides on the side hill you don't need too many obstructions because this is going to be all about managing the slope as you've probably experienced putting on a hill is a lot different than putting on flat ground it can be difficult to get your putt to behave properly whether it's nose angle or pace or any number of other factors i want to talk about a couple cases for putting downhill and uphill specifically from something that dave feldberg taught me several years ago on a flat ground putt you're going to have your back leg and your front leg staggered by a certain distance and that creates a timing when you shift from the back to the front so let me show you what that looks like putting downhill and uphill so much of putting is about timing so if on a flat ground you kind of have a default stance with a separation between your front and your back foot your hips are generating the timing that allow your arm to pull forward and that's true whether you're doing a staggered stance or a straddled stance when you're putting uphill if you shorten the distance between your feet you can allow your hips to have a shorter travel path which keeps the timing about the same even though gravity is kind of working against you so rather than being here where i'm gonna have to really work hard to get up up to the putt if i shorten my back foot i can make my timing a lot more like a standard normal putt similarly on a downhill putt gravity is working for you it's almost too easy to get from your back foot onto your front foot and that makes it difficult to keep the nose angle of the disc correct and potentially allows you to fly by the basket too fast so from whatever your normal stance is extend your back foot back a little bit more that'll make your travel path of your hips longer which enables the timing to be about the same side hills are kind of a different animal because gravity is...
