Uplay Visits Guatemala | Professional Disc Golf Association
Date Published

As part of their mission to bring disc golf to underserved communities, Uplay Disc Golf has been conducting training sessions with local children, teachers, and community members. The organization's Executive Director, Zoe AnDykē, recently reflected on the success of these efforts in a Community Impact Report.
In Guatemala, Uplay Disc Golf partnered with Raul Barcelo, who brought along additional volunteers Diego Perez and Brandon Mendez to enhance the training experience. This hands-on approach allowed for individual coaching and feedback, motivating both students and teachers to participate and become excited about offering disc golf to their students.
One of the highlights of Uplay's community impact was the Monte Maria Open tournament. To maximize the experience for newer players, Dustin Keegan suggested using a "Cali-shuffle" format, where all divisions were mixed in the first round. This innovative approach ensured that no single card would have a player unfamiliar with the course.
Zoe AnDykē had the opportunity to play with two new female disc golfers, Cindy and Pam Abreau, both of whom were inspired by their experiences at the tournament. Cindy, a community member from Santa Maria de Jesus, had only started playing one month prior and was eager to challenge herself further after learning so much from the event. Pam, on the other hand, is a Golf Pro who works for an environmental non-profit and has big goals to compete as a Female Pro in disc golf.
The success of Uplay Disc Golf's community impact extends beyond the training sessions and competitions. Zoe AnDykē and Raul Barcelo are planning to create a post-produced round coverage of the 2nd round top card MPO, featuring special facts and stories from the trip. This will not only educate donors and supporters but also provide a heartwarming testament to the organization's work in promoting disc golf in underserved communities.
