The Discraft Great Lakes Open (DGLO) is just around the corner, and with it comes a star-studded lineup of professional disc golfers vying for top honors at Toboggan, one of the most challenging courses on the tour. Here are the key storylines to watch out for:
Paul McBeth's Toboggan Revival
-----------------------------
Paul McBeth is back in Michigan, fresh from his first DGPT win since 2023. With a history of success at Toboggan – two wins and seven top-10 finishes across eight appearances – McBeth is poised to add another trophy to his collection. His controlled aggression and precision have always served him well on this course, and with his recent victory still resonating, he's a strong contender for the win.
Gannon Buhr's Dominant Season
-----------------------------
Gannon Buhr has been on a tear this season, already notching five Tour wins, including a PDGA Pro World Championships title. He leads the DGPT World Standings by a significant margin and is the first player to surpass 2,000 points in the standings. Another win at DGLO would all but cement his status as the MPO Player of the Year, and given his past success on this course – including a victory last year – he's the favorite to take home the title.
Anthony Barela's Home-Course Advantage
--------------------------------------
Anthony Barela has been in the top echelon of MPO standings all season and is looking to secure his first Tour win at DGLO. As a Discraft-sponsored player, he knows Toboggan intimately, having won the 2015 US Amateur DG Championship here. With the course's technical challenges, a strong showing would not only be a personal milestone but also provide a boost of momentum heading into the Playoffs.
Toboggan: A Preview to Pro Worlds 2026
---------------------------------------
This year's DGLO has added significance as it serves as a preview to next summer's PDGA Pro World Championships at Toboggan. The course, which has been a staple on the tour for years, will undergo significant changes in preparation for the Major. Players and fans alike will get one final look at the layout before its transformation into a world-class stage.
The action gets underway on Thursday, September 4th, with live coverage available on the Disc Golf Network and post-pro analysis from JomezPro throughout the weekend.
