Remembering Tim Selinske as Disc Golfers Gather for 2016 US Masters Championships
Date Published
This weekend, the city of Stockton, California will play host to one of the most anticipated events in the 2016 PDGA Majors schedule: the 2016 Tim Selinske US Masters Championships presented by Innova Champion Discs. As competitors from around the world, including the United States, Canada, and Japan, gather to test their skills on three challenging courses, they will also be paying tribute to a true legend of the sport.
At the heart of this celebration is the memory of Tim Selinske, a devoted father, husband, and disc golf enthusiast who left an indelible mark on the community. Tragically, his life was cut short in 2009 when he passed away after a long battle with Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis.
Born on August 10th, 1959, Tim grew up in San Marino, California with a passion for sports that would eventually become his lifelong devotion. He began competing in disc golf during his high school years and quickly fell in love with the sport. As one of the founding partners of Innova Champion Discs, Tim played an integral role in promoting disc sports and disc golf, serving as General Manager and Spokesman.
But Tim's impact extended far beyond the world of professional disc golf. His warm personality, infectious enthusiasm, and generosity of spirit made him a beloved figure among friends and family. As one who cherished his relationships with loved ones, Tim was a devoted father to his three children and loving husband to his wife Sue.
As competitors take to the courses at Lockeford Springs Golf Course and Oak Grove Regional Park, they will be honoring not only Tim's legacy but also the values he embodied: compassion, kindness, and a passion for life. The 2016 US Masters Championships promises to be an unforgettable celebration of disc golf's greatest champions, as well as a poignant tribute to one of its most cherished figures.
The tournament, which begins on Friday, September 9th, will feature professional divisions at Lockeford Springs Golf Course, while amateur divisions will be split between the Gold and Purple courses at Oak Grove Regional Park. Stay tuned for live scoring, video coverage, and updates from this year's US Masters Championships in Stockton, California.
