One of the hottest teams in College Ultimate this season has been TU's EWO and their star handler Leah Schwarz is a big part of why. The fifthear senior hails from the DC scene and seems primed to have a potential run at the player of the year award. While Tus has flexed their muscle as a deep and disciplined team, the X factor of Schwarz play vaults them into title contention. Schwarz makes the EO attack sharper and more efficient in the red zone. That's often by using her stinging inside breaks to leave Mark shaking their heads. Schwarz throws hard and that allows her to fire in forehands from all sorts of angles and contortions. There's not a big window here and a help defender is closing in, but Schwarz edges a little OI back onto the disc to help propel it directly into the receivers's bread basket. Those one throw scores she generates go much, much farther away, too. Those kill shots are commonplace. This one's not an assist, but watch as she spots the soft spot in the zone and then powers a huck past the skullking deep deep to set up an easy score. And she can get into power position with her quick feet and smart reads. Here she's actually being fronted to push her away from the disc, but dances open with a double move. And that is an invitation to get hucked on. Check out her directing traffic, then ripping up the mark within a round, and then recognizing a chance to push the pace. A stutter shakes the defender free. And you know the way this ends by now. Schwarz has a strong supporting cast in the backfield and athletic receivers like Emily Kemp, Annabelle White, and Mina Brown. That's a formidable mix, but her superpowers as a thrower and offensive threat might make plan A enough to topple even some of the division's best teams and lead Tus to a championship.
