Hey everyone, Joe Marmerstein here bringing you a quick analysis of this double game point finish from the 2024 D1 College National Championships. In this thrilling semi-final matchup, Colorado Quandry was up 139 before giving up four straight goals to force the Universe point. Colorado receives the pull and runs a variation of the Fury host play where a handler clears out to open up the sideline for a cutter. In this case, Colorado compresses their host stack to the near side, keeping the far side even more open. The far handler clears across the field and Phillips gets ready to make her cut, but unfortunately collides with Colton, who is running down on the pole to guard the clearing handler, and the injury call disrupts the play. After the restart, Colorado completes the play, hitting Phillips on the far side. When she catches the disc, Colorado has great spacing with open space to attack for continuations. However, two cutters in a row make poor continuation cuts, flaring horizontally to the breakside rather than attacking vertically to create throwing options. Phillips throws the reset and starts a givego move to clear the space, but decides to turn her move into a deep cut. Unfortunately, cutting up the strong side space severely shrinks the cutting lane and forces Gasill's continuation cut to flare out to the sideline. The throw ends up a bit high and behind her, and she's not able to make the difficult catch with the defensive pressure. After the turnover, UNCC sets up a vertical stack with Louder pre-isolated in the lane. With Colton at the back of the stack, Colorado doesn't want to offer any deep help, and Louder uses a nice jump cut to get open. Colorado's defense after the initial cut and swing is very effective, playing honest person D and nearly getting a coverage sack. The UNCC handlers remain patient, however, dumping the disc backwards several times. After this swing, the far UNCC handler makes a great clearing motion to open up space, but Gascill is all over the undercut. Gillic is all over the cut as well, almost getting a crazy outside shoulder layout D, but she's not quite able to get the block without fouling. Once again, Colorado is tight on the unders on everybody except Colton. Watch how every defender is even or under their matchup except Colton's defender who gives...
