This weekend in Poolsville, Maryland, just outside of Washington DC, club teams faced off in the Chesapeake Open, hoping to earn a bid to late August Chesapeake Invite. The Open finals pitted Massachusetts's Garuda against North Carolina's Cash Crop, the top two seeds in the tournament. The windy game opened with frequent turnovers, but Garuda worked hard to earn the up break. Go east. Quick turn from cash crop led to an easy second break, making it two nothing. Cashrop converted the next downwinder and after getting a D on a floaty high release backhand, showed patience as they worked the disc up the line for the upwind break. Both teams had turnovers on the next point, but the wind proved too much for Garuda, and Cashrop punched in the downwind break to take the 3-2 lead. After trading scores, Cash Crop's number 34 turned the half decisively in his team's favor with a big layout D in the end zone. And the book ends up win score to make it 5-3 Cash Crop. Garuda would respond by taking advantage of a cash crop turn near their end zone to score up wind. A welltimed switch to zone earned the quick downwind break to tie the game at fives. After an easy downwind score, Cashrop got the disc at midfield after a Garuda drop. Smooth offense was nearly put to waste when number 40 airbounced and floated a backhand in the end zone, but number 12 climbed the ladder over the defender to give Cashrop a 75 halftime lead. What do you need to do to take over? You got to break it half. What do you need to do to take over in the second half and put it away? I really think our offense needs to just, you know, knock out the kinks a little bit. We need to get our handlers into position to break and swing better and we need to get our cutters to get a little bit more separation and cut out, you know, the tough shot. trying to finish. Go big. Go big. Go big. Go big. That's right, buddy. That's right. So, just believing in each other and fighting hard. Great. And you feel good about the defense? Yeah, our defense looks great. Coming out of half, Cashrop had a chance to take a commanding lead with the D near their attacking...
