British Columbia vs. UC Santa Cruz - Stanford Invite Final Game Recap

Meanwhile, coach's tactics are called into question when the midfield reset goes awry for UBC. With the home crowd on their feet, Santa Cruz makes a late push to open up an insurmountable lead, but can they hold off the Thunderbirds and secure another SI championship?

We got UBC taking on UC Santa Cruz in the Stanford Invite Men's Division final. The Slugs looking to repeat as SI champions. First hold for UBC and well, I'll let them [music] tell it. Yeah, what he said. That set off a string of holds and you'll notice the pattern. UBC living off the deep game like this jam from Duncan Nichols. It's Santa Cruz, they're winning short. Pratt losing his defender. Miles Wong is back again. That's his second score in as many points. The Slugs showing a little range on the Pratt forehand huck to Toby Warren. First break goes to Santa Cruz next to a casual floater. >> [cheering] >> Hear that crowd noise? Sounds like some fans made the hour-long drive over to Palo Alto. The Thunderbirds answer with a Rex Yu and dot to who else? Miles Wong. Can someone please back this man? The bird boys bring a zone and just like fish in the comment section, don't take the bait. Joshua Jang got him hook, line, and sinker. Surely this is how coach wanted it executed. A hopeful floater deflected by the defense and saved from the turn by Jang and he's got just a run-of-the-mill assist. Absolutely nothing to see here. UBC break their back up 5-4. Schwartz-Kestner with the goal and the teensy-weensy staredown. Maybe that rattled UBC, got under their skin a little bit because they had a couple of miscues after that. And they got broken into the half. The uh home crowd loves it. Slugs do it for the fans. Second half for Santa Cruz, they love having Toby Warren in the middle of the field with room. This is just a tap-in for him. The mark on Rex Yu and gets a wave of instructions from the sideline and they did not help. That's a pretty assist and that's another Wong bucket. A bit too casual on the midfield reset for UBC. Finnegan Barr spots the open space and that's an expedient break. Really opens up the lead, 11-7.
