This weekend disc golf may have had the sport blown up on mainstream media as the FPO came into focus. Not the best timing for the latest go throw event and it's 50 grand prize purse without an FPO division. Welcome back disgenerates. I'm Swiss cheese, the one with far too many holes in his game and just one half of the disc golf world. I want to welcome you to this week in disc golf where I cover all things disc golf from the past week which was far more than Turner rocking a Zin Mini, Abigail Wilson's MCO forfeit, the Daily Mail articles, or a John Oliver BDI's absolute bar hit piece which if you're unfamiliar involves frisbees being thrown into this thing, some kind of Guantanamo for birds. Sadly overshadowed amongst all those media narratives was a tight battle in both divisions at Mill Ridge, which kind of leaves me feeling about as disappointed as when I watch any Kevin Smith movie since he got sober. It's bad enough having to constantly deal with jokes about disc golf not being a sport. And that's just on Sports Center aces. Now add national coverage to that, creating a powder keg most of us just wanted to avoid. But it also did bring other questions surrounding the sport. Apart from trans athletes competing, of course, nudged by those over on the tour life by scoring an Abigail Wilson interview. Player safety still isn't going away despite DGBT's listed efforts. While others are even questioning if it's even feasible with vast land spanses to cover for a sport who still self-governs and survives off of the backs of volunteers along with critiques of disciplinary actions while also highlighting DGBT and player communications. Nothing has been off the table even FBO's longevity as a whole. Sure, the threat of disciplinary actions for words being used prior to the event start has many questioning the tour motives, and that's before all the buzzwords of compelled speech that brings a debate all in itself. Personal opinions aside, the current rules in place weren't created to harm an individual's speech, but instead the protection of all players and staff for that matter. and either get on board as a player and follow those rules no differently than when you're on the course or choose not to tour like Abigail has done.
