MVP Disc Sports - 10 Years of GYRO®
MVP Disc Sports is proud to celebrate 10 years of innovation and improvement with their popular GYRO disc golf discs. From humble beginnings in a garage and barn, the company's journey has been marked by steady growth and constant refinement. The story begins with the design intent to create a softer, grippier overmold for chain grabbing abilities, but soon evolved into developing heavier discs to enhance gyroscopic stability. The company's founder pioneered the use of weighting agents in the overmold, leading to improved performance and consistency. With the help of injection molding, MVP Disc Sports was able to scale their operations and meet growing demand. The first successful mold allowed for the production of the popular Ion disc, which quickly gained traction with golfers worldwide. This video takes a look back at the company's journey, from its early days to the development of new models like the Vector mid-range, and explores the key technologies that have made MVP Disc Sports a leading brand in the disc golf industry.
Relive epic moments with MVP's top players as they tackle the course with the revolutionary GYRO disc, a game-changer in disc golf.

well it really came from a lot of humble beginnings when we first started and in every year year after year has been steady constant Improvement the very first ion the the the design intent was to have a softer grippier over mold for you know chain grabbing abilities having more friction on the trains but that uh soon evolved into needing to make the disc heavier so if you notice the first R ions they were only 167 G whereas then we started realizing well we need to develop a way to make them heavier and so the obvious decision was well we can put waiting agents in the plastic but where and so it was either the core or the overmold and so it was like a light bulb where if you put the weighting agents in the overmold not only you're making the part heavier you're performing you know increasing the performance of the product by you know making it more gyroscopic uh in the very beginning it all started in our dad's garage and barn and for the first quite a few years operated as a barn operation and every year we just got better and better we learned better ways to do everything and in the meanwhile we're working with our father's company to do all the injection molding yeah well after we started selling the ion the first year that first year the mold was uh it was selling fast enough to pay for that first mold which aot allowed us to realize that you know this technology had you know traction and we kind of figured well you know the decision was made to continue building upon new models and so it was that that first year we started looking into developing the next mold which was the vector mid-range what is interesting is the ion some of the first iterations did not necessarily have the true technical patented geotechnology the the basic difference would be it was the first time it was in clear uh proton plastic so so like for those who have some older you know ions and they're wondering which one had G technology which one didn't the first ones that had it were the clear proton Center core with the black over mold some of the earlier Generations like we didn't really even have a designated name for...
