welcome to another edition of this week in disc golf it is friday july 15th i'm charlie eisenhood and here's what happened this week well before we get to the lws open at idlewild i want to talk a little bit about what's going on behind me i'm at the 2022 world games in birmingham alabama where flying disc is a part of the program ultimate frisbee is being played here as it has been since 2001 the first time flying disc was in the event and that first time in 2001 so was disc golf well disc golf not back here yet but the sport is hoping to be re-added for the 2025 world games in chengdu china we'll hear a little bit from brian graham the director of membership at the pdga who spoke with the wfdf that's world flying disc federation's evan leplar yesterday during the competition disc golf was in the world games 21 years ago what's the pathway back into the world games for your sport well disc golf has grown by leaps and bounds especially over the the quarantine covid was very good at disc golf i think we doubled in size our association and disc golf is just growing all over the world so i think we are all ready for the world games in 2025 in chengdu what was that like for you to see the explosion of disc golf as a great safe outdoor socially distant activity it was pretty cool you know i've been in the sport for 25 30 years and i think we all kind of knew that this day was going to come we didn't know that a global pandemic would be the reason that it came so quickly but uh here we are what is the road map whose arms do you have to twist how do you convince the world games to allow disc golf back in well we have a great partnership with with diff and obviously that that's the way into the world games through the flying disc program we do have a meeting tomorrow with some of the chinese delegation from chengdu and hopefully we can convince them that disc golf is ready for the world games we would love to join our ultimate brothers and sisters in chengdu it seems like a perfect fit and there's certainly been a cool crossover...
