Meet Wesley Finley, a disc golf enthusiast who grew up surrounded by world-class courses in Monterey, California. A friend of pro player Nate Doss and avid backpacker, Wesley found his passion for disc golf while hiking through the beautiful terrain nearby. As an added bonus, playing disc golf allowed him to escape the pressures of life on tour - particularly as a musician performing on stage. when did you first get introduced to disc golf and like how did it become a part of your life to the point where you're here at funky farms yeah uh i live in monterey and that's pretty close to world famous state law of course and then also a few other courses that were included in the 2011 worlds like the two csumb courses and ryan ranch and pinna lake so i just grew up next to all these amazing courses that a lot of the pros played too including nate doss who i became friends with also and so it's just in my backyard and all my friends were doing it kind of had to do it and i'm also an avid backpacker and hiker so disc golf kind of fulfilled that role as well you're hiking with a purpose it's how i think about disc golf sometimes and then being on the road so much disc golf is a huge thing for me because i can get away from the venue get to experience the the city in a different way get away from people for a minute you know and uh just get out in nature and have some time to myself yeah i'm sure being in a band can like on stage like that it's got to be a lot of i don't say pressure is not the right word because you kind of thrive in that environment but like like that's a lot of energy that you got to put out to have that private time has got to be important yeah and just time by yourself too in general you're just around so many people all the time that like you unless you go in your bunk on your tour bus then you know that's the only way you can escape so i find ways to get out whether it's biking or playing disc golf yeah and uh you're with simon lizotte we just did the pairings with simon lizot for the uh for the like the pro-am yeah and i think it's actually really cool because you guys are both like musicians i feel like you have like similar kind of under understated like qual uh personality types uh what's that like gonna be like playing out round yeah i think we'll find a rhythm together you know uh i'm going to...
