it had only been three days since i swapped my bag from disks i was very comfortable with to throwing all lone star discs i spent the past three days in billings montana playing the three local nine holes and the other 18-hole course trying to learn all the discs in lone star's lineup since i'd never thrown them before but today was different here i'm at diamond x at phipps park a 6 000 foot course that plays up and down a cliff side my goal at the beginning of this week was to see if lone star made good enough discs that if i learned them quickly they wouldn't hold me back and to measure that i'm playing the hardest course in billings in the top 5 course in the state to count this week and these discs as a success i need to beat par shooting three to six down at least because that's typically what i do playing with my own bag at this type of course when i play it blind took out my mag cat for hole 1 a 350 foot par 3 and started the challenge get there get there quickly left ourselves about 45 feet let's get this started with a birdie here we are at hole two looks like about 242 there's a pin in there somewhere in those bushes so it's going to be a flexing forehand i could do a mad cat which might be a good option you could also do a chupacabra really just got a yank on it super stable i think this would be a good option get through get through the last one ah that thing has no glide go in oh just to the side of it here our hole three says 600 feet all the way up the hill par four so probably place closer to seven ish got a couple options i'm thinking curl maybe i think i'm just gonna actually throw my bowie which i think is my father's flying disc give it a lot of turn stay up stay up stay up that's so short yeah gonna be another 100 forward up into the pin maybe curl because it's a little easier to throw give myself a putt at least get a skip so i don't get up there that still seems so short that is such a long hole so i'm not sure if it's the discs it's definitely because i'm really tired my body is not throwing even close that's what i'm capable of throwing which is why in the next video which will wrap this initial series up i'll do a field test after i'm rested let's see how far i can actually throw them i feel like this should be an easy three just two like 380 foot shots which are like fairway shots normally for me but i'm struggling right now let's just have a look 28 feet uphill let's go with how tired i am right now i'm really needing just to focus on accuracy and form because slow is smooth and smooth as far smooth as fast and fast as far something like that and hit my line we should be good hold four this is saying 396. unit says 384 all the way out there to that flag way down there camera doesn't want to focus pretty much a flex backhand line i'm really liking my bowie a lot but i'm going to try the warbird just to see if i like it as well the bowie i just i think it holds the lines that i throw a little bit better than the warbird does it's got to make sure to keep the nose down and we should give ourselves hopefully that's great that's so good get over the tree i think we're probably within circle one these discs are good when i focus on throwing them good got it let's go so solid there are a whole five 190ish to the pin right down there so it's pretty much just gonna be an overstable approach disc and they actually have three the harpoon which is four three zero three which i thought i would be throwing a lot it's just a little bit shallow so i'm not the biggest fan of it i don't know if i have the best grip the jackrabbit is really solid but it's pretty glidy and for something like this especially going downhill i want something that's not going to go far my favorite disc i think so far is the bull sink three two zero four super beefy look at the angle on that rim so we'll go ahead and give it a rip over this bush and it should filter right underneath the back oh that's very wide that's not under the bush but look at that still fine it's got not a lot of glide so i wasn't even worried about it too much it just wants to get to the ground really good disc bag on bowl snake birdie baby it's a lot of bees that's how you warm up that's a turkey and now we're going on the hole six down three already let's see if we can keep it rolling six says 400 feet here 399 feet here and 488 on udisk it's between those pine trees all the way underneath there that little pole so it's definitely a flexing backhand bowie or wurbert i think it'd be fine maybe even curl but i think i'm gonna go warbird again i threw that really well last time so i might as well see about throwing the warbird well again get over it yes that's super solid get some sort of skip didn't hear anything all right that's a really good shot though one problem with these discs comparing them with like my bag specifically is my bag is super beaded because i play with it all the time these discs are new and the more that you throw this into the ground or more realistically trees the more glidy they get i'm like oh these just are short and like i am very tired so that's a big part of it but secondly they also haven't hit a lot of trees yet so they're not gonna be glidy i'm guessing in like a month or two if i play a lot more with them they will be way cloudier and go a lot farther but let's make a putt yes these are solid discs y'all here we're at hole seven all the way up the hill this is 372 you just says 360. so we'll probably call it 400 feet i think i'm gonna throw something that i almost never throw which is a very flippy disc this is the tumbleweed 10 6 negative four one so we're going to throw it like a lot of highs are really hard at the basket hope that it gets up rides and comes back oh that's so flippy i should have thrown in a little bit more to left get over that rock though nope just smack the rock cool deep inside the crap wait even there there's a backhand is there an opening on that rock actually forehand line basket is straight out of us don't roll don't roll don't roll if it didn't roll that could be good where the heck am i oh no way put a good out let's go apart from that is awesome okay we're getting into some cool stuff we're going up 19 feet of elevation about 280 feet to the basket way out there so i'm thinking this is the time to take out a disc that i'm not comfortable with but i like a lot and i'm not comfortable with it because i don't throw anything flippy and that is the dome first off this is like my favorite color so eight six negative three one and i like this because on this play you wanna crash those rocks so that you're up high so you're not throwing up at the basket too much i'm much more comfortable with the forehand here so let's try this oh i thought i used the first second but that was so good i think that disc is going in my bag like officially i was thinking about it because i need some understable stuff i really like that tool never make shots like that look at this shot here we're at hold nine it's only 90 feet but there's 52 feet at elevation because we're going up to that basket so we got a little baby gap we're going penny putter for this one the premium version no it's through ish yeah we're literally just climbing up the cliff side here i'm gonna put from there somehow how do i even get over there without dying oh what birdie no no no no that shot felt good that's thinks that i couldn't bring a 93 foot hole but it's okay at least we didn't bogey it thought i did there for a second it looked like it was going out down five on the front nine i'm pretty happy with it i don't think that like the discs are making me play better but the biggest thing is they're not making me play worse because disc golf a lot of times discs are just about preference like the feel or the look or gives you confidence to play with one of these discs it will definitely do well for you sorry that i'm so out of breath this course has taken all the life out of me here we are at hole 10 213 feet up to the basket there you could do a flexing backhand or just a big hyzer backhand or just a big forehand but then you run the risk of going all the way down the hill if you don't make it all the way there i would throw a mid at it you know i think i still will i'm going to throw in my favorite man i think at least just buy the artwork the texas ranger heck yeah heck dude let's freaking go oh my gosh i couldn't have placed a better shot than that onto 11. it's apparently 335 feet this way but i cannot see the basket we gotta go find that real fast all the way over by that cliff side 333 feet away so we got to go around this big tree here and also not down the hill i'm gonna just go bowie on a forehand really make sure i leave it wide that will leave me with the depth putt though but at least i don't think i'll go down the hill that's not great that's really we're playing for park that was where like jumped at the end of that forehand that was so weird don't do that i think there was more room than i gave it credit for down there we're going to go with a new disc the armadillo one two zero one kinda likes to get to the ground but it's way flippier than i thought so i gotta throw it soft it should be perfect a little bit short but i mean what ten feet it's not gonna hurt there are a whole 12. it's only 172 feet to the basket there i'm guessing there's nothing behind the basket a lot so gonna have to really dial back the distance and i think to help that i'm just gonna go with my bowl snake doesn't want to go very far it is over stable so i'll put it out to the right it should come back across the basket and it looks like a lot of bushes that'll catch it from rolling oh that was a great shot and it did smack a bush and it almost tasted it dang it this disc might make it my bag too here are hole 13 you just says 393 but the t sign says 420 so we're going to call 500 right through there behind those trees turn over shot honestly gotta not put it down the hill i think it's time for the tumbleweed to shine again i'm really gonna focus on putting it out way to the left but if i can hit it right i think i can get the distance and the shot shaping correctly nope not the shot shaping flax flex please jesus hit the tree hit a tree i hope it didn't roll down the hill i needed to put that so much more left that's the problem i don't trust flippy discs yet and i haven't thrown them enough so i don't know the angles i thought i put that on the right angle and it just turned i need to put that maybe 30 more feet to the left because i'm pretty sure that easily had the distance no way wow i definitely got the distance right i thought i was going to go switch down the hill and i was coming up here to set my bag down and i found it that's solid distance honestly flippy forehand we're going gonna throw the penny it likes to hold its line keep turning oh i think that you were inside of this branch so i'm very sorry but the shot was pretty good no buggies yet i don't think that's really good all right so i see the basket way down there t-pad right here along the cliffs edge this is gonna be super interesting i think crashing these trees right here on a hyzer line with probably my mag cat maybe my lariat no probably my mag cat that's the right this oh oh too stable not hitting my line hit the tree oh the other side of the tree though maybe i should have thrown that lariat i think the lariat is like my beaten thunderbird but because the mad cat has the numbers of my thunderbird i'm like oh it's my thunderbird and it's not i'm pretty sure where it is and that's what i should be throwing here i'm gonna go both snake again try this little gap here what a desk that's a cool looking basket here we have the t-pad for 15. going 375 feet i'm guessing down this hill is it around the corner yeah okay it looks like that flag there 375 just around the corner i'm thinking i'm probably gonna go curl eleven five negative one two aim at that tree that's out there yeah because i'm not going straight down the hill it's a little bit higher than i wanted but actually should be really good if the wind pushes it back towards the basket as long as it didn't roll i'm pretty sure i'm inside the circle i think one thing that's helped me to feel like i'm gonna get more power on these like last five holes is that after five or six holes initially my food actually kicked in to having been digested a little bit and giving me a little bit of the nutrition from it so that was very helpful yeah i gotta be so close because that's the tree and that's the best i had to have hit something and rolled because i'm on the back side i flew over that tree so oh yeah yeah just get up bar town it's super cool also just noticed that my lav mic card filled up so that's fun 358 it says on here it says 367 on udisk across the ravine that's so cool the bowie just be smooth too much hyzer i meant to release it on some annie sit uh oh that could be really bad found it terrible shot but it's okay because we got our trusty bull snake that's no actually i thought that was terrible and it's still on up good because that's the ball snake for you baby all right 258 hole 17 straight to the basket this is gonna be an interesting shot for sure a little bit of a gully before it so you can't really skip it up to the basket you really gotta throw 258 dead straight so we're going texas ranger could go penny putter but i think i can hyzer flip this guy just enough that should be good oh my gosh drop oh wow i well i was worried about hitting the gap and i definitely hit the gap it was a perfect ace line if it didn't go 100 feet past the basket oh this will be fun to get up and down i thought i was going to ace it for a second and then i realized that the basket was coming way sooner than i thought oh no oh no no no no no no no no no oh let's praise god yes i thought it was down here luckily it got stable oh yes guess what ball snake i think the thing that i love about the bull snake is it's only a two glide i'm having to like dial back on a lot of my other upshot discs whereas this one i don't it's what i think the armadillo tries to be a disc that really wants to get to the ground but i mean look at this from nowhere i probably went straight over the basket once again we get up and down yeah i'm pretty sure this is going in my bag one last hole par four let's get a birdie and have some fun finishing out here this is what the bull snake landed next to what if this is a bull snake and it's just bull snake skin all right here we are hole 18 672 feet oh actually i know it's this that one right there all the way down there that is so far down wow that's where our van is way over there i'm wondering if i throw a big tumbleweed shot no i'm gonna throw a big big flexing backhand with the warbird see if we can bite off 500 plus gotta really make sure i throw it down the hill did not turn that at all because of the sand dang okay down by that tree could have thrown it even more to the right that almost had the distance if i were to turn it a bit more so this tumbleweed might get there no it's got a stable oh no no no no no no no no no no no no oh it's rolling it's a roller when you're something dumb i was just looking for the bowie at the wrong tree for like 30 minutes basket straight down there probably still got about 200 feet it might be a walker shot which i haven't taken out today or midi 200 feet is saying so oh shoot we're 600 feet away from the t-pad though so that's pretty cool all right this is a tough shot i'm thinking it's going to be the walker which is kind of like a justice 5304 very overstable mid i might actually throw the midi because it might need to be a little bit more glidier because i'm going to push a hyzer i probably gonna throw the midi actually might be a little far not at all stop rolling ah stupid roll we kind of have a putt though still see if we can make it happen i kind of want to do with the bull snake but i'm thinking we can make it with a penny oh just passed would have made it with the bullsnick of course we would have of course we would have but as it is we'll finish out with the bull snake with a bar wow looks like there's a little bit further of a position too honestly that brings us to a pretty solid round i was relying on that bull snake for so much and it was such a solid disc i do have a bunch of cuts all over me because i kept kicking cacti but if you're in this area this is a really fun course you will need to scramble like rock climbing up the cliffs but if you want to play disc golf on a cliff side billings montana has an awesome spot for it but if you want to check out the unboxing video check it out right here my review will be coming soon of all the discs with a fieldwork session so subscribe for that video and i'll see you there
