USWDGC Kicks Off with Thrilling Action at International Disc Golf Center

The 2014 United States Women’s Disc Golf Championship is off to a flying start at the International Disc Golf Center (IDGC) in Georgia. The event, which has been running smoothly for seven consecutive years under the guidance of volunteer legends Mom and Old Man Wallis, kicked off with a single round on the center's three challenging courses.

The 11 divisions of women competing in the championship were divided into two pools: A-Pool and B-Pool. The Open Women, Grandmasters, and Advanced divisions (A-Pool) took on the "Steady" Ed Headrick Memorial course from the long tees, while the remaining divisions (B-Pool) played the Jim Warner Memorial course from short tees.

Paige Pierce, a strong contender for the championship, currently leads the Open Women's division with an impressive score of 55. She was closely followed by Liz Carr and Elaine King, who shot 56 and 57 respectively on the par-62 long tee layout of the Steady Ed course. This challenging course is notorious for its difficult tee shots and greens, making it a true test of skill.

Current leader Paige Pierce reflected on her performance, saying that she "took 4s on all the 3s, and 3s on all the 4s." Defending champion Sarah Hokom will be competing alongside Pierce in the lead card tomorrow after shooting a respectable 60.

The competition is set to heat up even further as the players face two full rounds tomorrow and a grueling final round on Sunday. The W.R. Jackson Memorial course, considered one of the toughest courses at the IDGC, awaits them for their last challenge of the championship.

Meanwhile, Alex Lambert, a young player in the 16 & Under division, has already made her mark by taking an impressive lead with a score seven under par. Suzanne Graham, competing in the Advanced Masters Women's division and a veteran of the tournament since its inaugural year in 1999, is also making waves. Graham is not only an accomplished player but also the sister of PDGA Executive Director Brian Graham.

Tomorrow promises to be an exciting day for the players as they take on two different world-class courses. The A-Pool will play the Warner course from long tees in the morning and then tackle the Steady Ed course from long tees in the afternoon, while the B-Pool will follow a similar schedule but from short tees.

For those who can't be there in person, live scoring and commentary will be available on PDGALive.com throughout the day. The action-packed tournament is also being captured by McFlySoHigh Video, with footage expected to be released shortly after each round.
