Top Disc Golf Pros to Watch at 2018 Touring Events

As the disc golf touring season gets underway, a diverse range of experienced players will be hitting the courses, seeking to secure their places at the top of the rankings. Among them are some familiar names who have been absent from competition for various reasons, as well as fresh faces bursting onto the scene with impressive credentials.

Austin Turner is one such player, having exceeded expectations last year by taking fourth place in National Tour points and seventh place at Worlds. Now in his second full season of touring, Turner has been working hard on his physical conditioning, adding 20-25 pounds of muscle to his frame. This increased strength has allowed him to push himself further on the course, with noticeable improvements in distance and stamina.

Fellow player Ellen Widboom is another rising star, having recently made the switch from a military career to pursue her passion for disc golf full-time. Having won the Smog City Classic early this year, Widboom is eager to build on her momentum and make her mark on the touring scene. Her goal of securing a top 10 finish at Worlds will undoubtedly drive her performances throughout the season.

Meanwhile, Kevin Jones has been making waves with his remarkable recent form, having started the season with back-to-back comeback wins in Arizona. While he acknowledges the added pressure that comes with being watched more closely by fans and sponsors, Jones remains focused on his long-term goals, aiming to become a consistent top 5 finisher.

Other notable players set to make an impact this season include Grady Shue, who had a breakthrough year last year as a rookie and is looking to build on his success. Rebecca Cox has also been gaining momentum in recent months, having made significant improvements to her game after transitioning to new sponsorships and traveling arrangements.

For those watching from the sidelines, Nick Wood's journey from relative newcomer to seasoned pro will be an inspiring one to follow. Having given up disc golf for several years to focus on his family business, Wood is now back on track with a newfound sense of purpose and passion.

Finally, Garrett Gurthie returns to touring after a brief hiatus, having honed his skills in Northern California and teamed up with travel partner Jessica Weese. Although he has no concrete targets set for the season, Gurthie is confident that his ability will shine through as he competes against some of the best players in the world.

As these talented professionals take to the courses across North America, fans can expect an exciting season filled with thrilling performances and competitive finishes. Whether you're a seasoned fan or new to the sport, don't miss out on the action-packed drama that unfolds at every tournament stop.
