Swedish Disc Golf Star Linus Carlsson Wins PDGA Europe Player of the Year Award

Disc golf enthusiasts in Europe are celebrating a remarkable achievement by two talented players who have been awarded the prestigious PDGA Europe Player of the Year title for 2021. Swedish star Linus Carlsson and Estonian phenom Kristin Tattar have proven themselves to be among the best on the European disc golf scene, consistently demonstrating exceptional skill and dedication throughout the year.

The competition for these awards was fierce, with a range of criteria used to determine the winners. Players were judged based on their end-of-year player ratings, performance at major events such as the European Championships and A-Tier tournaments, and placement in the PDGA Elite Series. Carlsson's impressive 290 points earned him the top spot, edging out Finland's Niklas Anttila by a narrow margin.

Meanwhile, Tattar dominated the field with an outstanding 350 points, surpassing her Finnish rivals Henna Blomroos and Eveliina Salonen. Her achievement is a testament to her exceptional skill and commitment to the sport.

But Carlsson and Tattar aren't the only ones being recognized for their contributions to disc golf in Europe. Zoë Winfield, a dedicated volunteer from Nottinghamshire Disc Golf Club, has been awarded the PDGA Europe Volunteer of the Year title for 2021. Her tireless efforts have helped transform her local community into a thriving and engaged disc golf scene, with numerous clubs copying her successful model.

Winfield's impact extends far beyond her home region, however. As Chair of the UK Women's Disc Golf Association (UKWDGA), she has played a pivotal role in promoting women's participation in the sport across the country. Her work has been instrumental in securing new permanent disc golf courses and transforming the UK disc golf scene for women of all ages and abilities.

Winfield's remarkable achievements are all the more impressive given her full-time job in pest control, as well as her roles as a mother and grandmother. Her dedication to disc golf is evident in her numerous awards and accolades, including being named PDGA Member Spotlight in January 2022 and representing Team GB at the EDGF European Masters Disc Golf Championship.

The wins by Carlsson and Tattar are a fitting tribute to their exceptional skill and hard work on the course. Meanwhile, Winfield's recognition serves as a shining example of the impact that dedicated volunteers can have on their communities.
