The fifth annual Disc Golf Pro Tour - Play It Again Sports Jonesboro Open powered by Prodigy kicked off in spectacular fashion at The Disc Side of Heaven, with perfect conditions for the players to showcase their skills. Among those who made a statement on day one were reigning champion Calvin Heimburg and former champion Ricky Wysocki, both of whom carded impressive 13-under-par rounds of 51 to take a one-shot lead over the rest of the field.
Ben Callaway from Davenport, Iowa, had initially set the pace with an excellent bogey-free round of 12-under-par 52. However, his lead was short-lived as he was eventually surpassed by Wysocki and Heimburg's strong performances. Drew Gibson also made a notable impression on day one, posting an 11-under-par round that earned him a spot on the lead card for the second day.
On the FPO (Female Professional) side of the competition, some fresh faces emerged as contenders for the top spot. Macie Walker, a newcomer to the tour, impressed with her accuracy, hitting 90% of fairway marks and recording a 7-under-par round that left her just one stroke behind Catrina Allen.
Paige Pierce initially took the lead on hole 15 but faltered slightly on the 16th hole, where she carded an 8 to erase what had been a bogey-free round up until then. However, she managed to recover with birdies on holes 17 and 18 to finish just one shot behind Allen.
Sarah Hokom also made waves in the FPO competition by carding a bogey-free 7-under-par round, which was the cleanest sheet of the day among all players. The competition resumes at 1:30 p.m. CT on the Disc Golf Network.
