Saratoga Spa State Park Debuts Disc Golf Course for Dave Matthews Band Fans

Saratoga Spa State Park in New York has long been a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts. The 2,700-acre park offers an array of activities, including hiking trails, picnic areas, historic buildings, and even a pool. However, one activity that was noticeably absent from the park's offerings was disc golf - a rapidly growing sport enjoyed by people of all ages and skill levels.

To address this gap, Explore Disc Golf was contracted to install The Mobile Disc Golf Experience at Peerless Pool within the park. This unique course is designed to be a traveling disc golf experience, offering a new layout every time it's set up. For the weekend of May 30-31, the course featured nine holes that wove through the scenic surroundings of the pool area.

As a bonus, each hole was named after a song by the Dave Matthews Band (DMB), with accompanying information about the album release date and relevant history for each track. This creative twist on the traditional disc golf experience brought an added layer of excitement to the course, as fans of the band flocked to try out the new holes.

The Mobile Disc Golf Experience team set up a vending booth near the first tee, where they offered free disc loaners to anyone interested in playing. The only requirement was that participants return the discs after use, ensuring that everyone could enjoy the experience without having to purchase their own equipment.

According to Explore Disc Golf's owner, Brian Giggey, the course design and layout were carefully planned to cater to both beginner and advanced players. Several holes were situated within a field setting to maximize visibility of the baskets and DMB signage for onlookers.

Reviews from park officials and players alike praised the temporary disc golf course, commending its unique blend of scenic surroundings and engaging gameplay. The success of this initiative has sparked interest in exploring new ways to integrate disc golf into Saratoga Spa State Park's offerings, potentially paving the way for future events and activities.
