Date Published
The Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA) is calling on its members to recognize and nominate exceptional women in disc golf who make a significant impact behind the scenes. The PDGA Women's Committee will soon be requesting nominations from current women and girl PDGA members for candidates for the prestigious Becky Zallek Women's Choice Award.
This honor was created to pay tribute to the late Becky Zallek, a beloved figure in the sport who dedicated her life to promoting equality and inclusivity. A highly accomplished player and tournament director, Becky's contributions were acknowledged with numerous awards during her career, including Volunteer of the Year, Tournament Director of the Year, Sportswoman of the Year, and a Special Services Award.
The Becky Zallek Women’s Choice Award is awarded annually to a standout tournament director who has demonstrated exceptional leadership in providing a welcoming atmosphere for female players. These dedicated individuals prioritize women's needs and go above and beyond to ensure a positive experience for both new and seasoned players.
Last year's inaugural winner, Sara Nicholson, was recognized for her outstanding efforts in creating an inclusive environment at tournaments. Now, the PDGA is seeking nominations for this year's award, which will be presented at the 2024 United States Women's Disc Golf Championships (USWDGC) in Round Rock, Texas.
To nominate a deserving TD, current women and girl PDGA members can expect to receive a nomination form via email next week. The deadline for submissions is December 29. If your email address has recently changed, please ensure it is updated on your player profile to avoid missing the notification.
Registration for professionals at the USWDGC will open in mid-January, while all other divisions will be available from January 24. This prestigious event is an excellent opportunity to showcase exceptional disc golf talent and celebrate the achievements of trailblazing women like Becky Zallek.
The nomination form will be sent via email to active women members, so keep an eye out for it in your inbox. If you know of a dedicated TD who embodies the spirit of Becky Zallek's vision, now is the time to shine a light on their remarkable contributions to the sport.
