Missy Gannon Mounts Stunning Comeback in PDGA World Championship

The stage is set for a thrilling conclusion to the 2023 PDGA Professional Disc Golf World Championships. Defending champion Kristin Tattar held an eight-stroke lead going into Friday's round, but Missy Gannon had other plans. The talented golfer produced a scintillating performance on Brewster Ridge, cutting Tattar's advantage in half with a remarkable 6-under-par round.

Gannon's surge was fueled by her exceptional putting, as she sank all of her circle 1 putts and made two crucial conversions from circle 2. This impressive display earned her a staggering 3.92 strokes gained putting, a testament to her skill and focus under pressure. As she navigated the challenging course, Gannon also demonstrated her ability to scramble effectively, successfully converting five tricky situations.

When asked about her mindset while chasing down Tattar's lead, Gannon remained calm and confident. "There's only one goal in mind: getting the disc in the basket," she said. "I was putting well, making some clutch shots – this is what I do." With a renewed sense of determination, Gannon is now just four strokes behind Tattar, who carded a 2-under-par round.

This marked the first time Tattar had seen her lead dwindle between rounds in three consecutive Majors. In contrast to previous tournaments, where she dominated with comfortable margins – including a 12-stroke lead at the PDGA Champions Cup and a 14-stroke advantage at the European Open – Tattar now faces a much tighter competition.

As the FPO field heads to Fox Run Meadows for the final two rounds, the battle for top spot is poised to come down to a thrilling showdown between Gannon and Tattar. "I think I'm in a great position," Gannon said, reflecting on her reduced deficit. With their skills set to be put to the ultimate test on Fox Run's open fairways and tight obstacles, anything can happen in the championship's final act.

The competition will reach its climax at Fox Run Meadows, where Tattar and Gannon will engage in a high-stakes battle for glory. Will Gannon continue to close the gap and claim her first Major victory, or will Tattar secure another title? The world of disc golf is holding its breath as these two talented players face off in what promises to be an unforgettable conclusion to the 2023 PDGA Professional Disc Golf World Championships.
