Date Published

The Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA) Europe has announced the appointment of two new team members who will be instrumental in driving the growth of disc golf across Europe. Yrjö "George" Munukka from Finland and Matej Verl from the Czech Republic have been appointed to key positions, bringing a wealth of experience and passion for the sport.

Yrjö Munukka, known affectionately as "George the Volunteer," has been hired as the full-time Administrator. With over 30 years of experience in IT and business/financial management, George is well-equipped to handle the administrative tasks required for the role. His background also includes extensive travel, having worked on the entire 2016 Disc Golf World Tour across three continents. This experience earned him the title of Volunteer of the Year from Jussi Meresmaa. As an 856-rated Amateur player in Finland, George is highly respected within his community for his dedication to disc golf.

George's introduction to disc golf was a serendipitous one, having stumbled upon the sport just after turning 50. He has since become a passionate advocate and volunteer, working tirelessly to promote the game. In his own words, "I love the sport and believe I have a lot to give to PDGA." As Administrator, George aims to help PDGA establish itself as a strong player in Europe's disc golf growth, increasing its visibility and reputation among European members.

Matej Verl, on the other hand, has been appointed as the new Tour Manager. With a Master's degree in Business Economics & Management, Matej brings a wealth of business acumen to the role. His background in sports is equally impressive, having represented his country in Sailing at two World Championships and working in the sports department of Prague city hall. In his last role, Matej was responsible for directing the biggest triathlon tour in the Czech Republic.

Matej's introduction to disc golf was relatively recent, but he has quickly fallen in love with the sport. Despite initially doubting his chances of securing the position, he is now excited and committed to putting his best efforts into making PDGA EuroTour series bigger and better than ever. With the current boom in popularity of disc golf, there is a tremendous amount of work ahead for Matej and George as they lead PDGA Europe forward.

The entire PDGA community welcomes George and Matej to their new roles and looks forward to seeing the impact they will make on European disc golf activities.
