McBeth and Jenkins Take Control at The Memorial Championship
Date Published

The second round of The Memorial Championship has come to a close, and two familiar names have emerged at the top of their respective leaderboards. Paul McBeth, a consistent performer in recent years, took advantage of his experience to shoot a scorching hot round, while Val Jenkins used her strategic play to build a four-stroke cushion over her closest rival.
The 18-hole Vista Del Camino course proved to be a challenging test for all competitors, with its sparse tree coverage and abundance of out-of-bounds lines making it difficult to navigate. The longer-than-average holes added to the challenge, with rounds taking anywhere from three and a half to four and a half hours to complete.
McBeth's resurgence was nothing short of remarkable, as he birdied 11 out of 18 holes to take the lead in the Open division. Starting the day in fifth place, just three strokes off the lead, McBeth carded two bogeys early on but quickly found his rhythm, producing a string of clutch putts and shots that left his competitors struggling to keep up.
Meanwhile, Jenkins demonstrated her mastery of strategic play by gaining four strokes over Paige Pierce on a single hole - with a bogey. Starting the day in second place, two strokes behind Jenkins, she has now extended her lead to four strokes heading into the final round.
The course will change dramatically tomorrow when the players move on to Fiesta Lakes, a new addition to The Memorial Championship that promises to provide a unique challenge for all competitors. With its shorter length and emphasis on accuracy over power, this course requires a different skillset than the other two tracks. Will McBeth and Jenkins be able to adapt quickly enough to maintain their leads?
