Leaders Emerge, but the Great Shuffle Awaits at PDGA Amateur World Championships

Date Published

As the 600+ competitors at the 2017 PDGA Amateur & Junior Disc Golf World Championships took to the courses for their second or third rounds this morning, some early leaders had already emerged in each division. But while the top players are currently basking in the glory of their early success, they know that a major shake-up is just around the corner.

The Great Shuffle, which will take place after today's rounds are complete, will see competitors moved between pools based on their PDGA Player Rating. This means that even the leaders will be at risk of being reassigned to a new pool, with a maximum of 72 players allowed in each one.

For now, though, let's take a look at who's leading the pack in each division. In the Advanced Men's division, Iowa's Colin Poe and California's Christopher Keseloff are tied for first place after a blistering four-and-a-half rounds at West Lake Park on Tuesday. They'll be joined on the lead card by Minnesota's Alec Anderson and North Carolina's AJ Carey.

Over in the Advanced Women's division, Lauren Butler of Elk River, Minnesota has taken an early lead with a score of +5 after just one round at Middle Park. But she'll face stiff competition from Colorado's Missy Gannon and Iowa's Becca Sobolik as they take on Camden Park 1 for back-to-back rounds this morning and afternoon.

The Advanced Masters division is also shaping up to be a closely contested affair, with Roy Quilantan of the United States holding a slim lead after a score of -6. And in the Junior I Boys 18 & Under division, Laurenz Schaurhofer of Switzerland has taken an impressive early lead with a score of -20.

But while these players are currently riding high, they know that anything can happen over the next three days. With several more rounds to go and the Great Shuffle set to take place, it's clear that only time will tell who'll emerge as champions in each division.

The current leaders in each division are:
