King of the Lake Wrap-Up: Thrilling Finishes and Beautiful Tahoe Scenery
Date Published

The King of the Lake PDGA National Tour event has finally come to a close, and what an exciting conclusion it was! After a brief delay due to staffing shortages in the PDGA office, we're thrilled to share the thrilling finishes from this year's competition. Our team, led by Dave, Sara, and I, worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure everything ran smoothly.
In the Grandmasters division, Doug Werner made history by winning his first-ever National Tour title with a commanding 7-stroke victory. Starting the final day with a comfortable 5-stroke lead, Doug sealed his win with an impressive performance. Ken Halvorson and Jeff Stoops engaged in a fierce battle for second place, but Ken emerged victorious, holding onto the position until the end.
The Masters division saw a nail-biting finish, with Mike Loya and Jay Reading locked in a tight duel at the top of the leaderboard. However, by hole 6, the order of finish was determined, and Mike Loya took home the win, finishing two strokes ahead of Yeti and Patrick Brown in third place.
In the FPO division, Catrina Allen put on an impressive display to claim second place, briefly tying Sarah Hokom for the lead after hole 11. However, Sarah's steady play throughout the day ensured she secured a 2-stroke win and was crowned Queen of the Lake.
The Men's Open division witnessed some of the most intense action of the tournament, with scores changing hands multiple times on every hole except once. Young Nick Gagne from Maine started strong but dropped back to sixth place before battling his way back up to tie for third. Devan Owens dominated the field, carding an impressive win by two strokes over Ricky Wysocki, who rose from third to second.
We'd like to extend our gratitude to Russ Wey and Jenny Kniceley and their dedicated team for organizing a fantastic event in this breathtakingly beautiful setting.
As a special treat, we've uploaded a selection of photos taken during the event to our PDGA Flickr site. These stunning images showcase the natural beauty of Lake Tahoe, which is truly a sight to behold. If you ever get the chance to visit this incredible destination, don't hesitate – it's an experience you won't want to miss!
As we bid farewell to King of the Lake, we're already looking forward to the next exciting event on the PDGA National Tour calendar. Until then, thank you for joining us in celebrating the thrill of disc golf!
