It's Raining Birdies | Professional Disc Golf Association

The 4th stop on the National Tour Elite Series came to an end yesterday, with the final round being played out in challenging weather conditions at the Hall of Fame Classic in Appling, Georgia. The International Disc Golf Center's three courses were pounded by heavy rain for most of the tournament, leaving competitors and spectators alike battling against the elements.

Rain poured down relentlessly throughout rounds 1-3, and even into the final round, making it difficult for golfers to maintain their footing on the soggy fairways. Umbrellas and extra towels became essential accessories for players, alongside their trusty discs. The weather conditions were so extreme that streams of water covered entire fairways, often surrounding what would normally be safe landing zones.

However, in true elite fashion, some of the world's top golfers rose to the challenge. While many struggled to keep up with the unpredictable conditions, others thrived. In the Open and Open Women's divisions, Ricky Wysocki and Sarah Cunningham demonstrated exceptional skill and adaptability. With a comfortable lead going into the final round, they went on to win in convincing fashion.

Watching Ricky play in the rain is a sight to behold. He approaches each shot with confidence and speed, hardly breaking stride despite the downpour. In his own words, "I play fast in the rain," and that's exactly what he did. With birdies pouring in on holes 1-10, there was no looking back for Wysocki. He went on to win by a convincing 4-stroke margin over Nikko Locastro.

Nikko's incredible eagle shot on hole 18 with a blind backhand roller left everyone in awe. Meanwhile, Dave Feldberg finished third, after his impressive performance on the Steady Ed Memorial course put him on the lead card for the final round.

In the Open Women's division, Sarah Cunningham dominated from start to finish. With an 11-stroke lead going into the final round, she cruised to victory. Des Reading and Elaine King battled it out for second place, but ultimately, Des emerged victorious, finishing 15 strokes behind Cunningham.

Other notable performances came from Jay Reading, who finished second in the Open Masters division, and John Borelli, who secured his first A-tier win in the Advanced Masters group after a stellar performance on Saturday.

The National Tour Elite Series will continue with its next stop at the Discraft Great Lakes Open in Ann Arbor, Michigan, starting May 31st.
