Global Disc Golfers Unite: Virtual World Championships Kick Off

The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) has joined forces with Swedish disc manufacturer Latitude 64 to create the WFDF 2022 Virtual Sport World Team Disc Golf Championships. This groundbreaking event marks the world's first international virtual disc golf competition, where players from 40 countries can compete for a coveted World Championship title.

Disc Golf Valley, a popular video game with over 500,000 downloads since its launch in 2017, will host the competition. The game has seen a significant surge in popularity since the pandemic began, and WFDF sees virtual sport as an essential way to engage the community and attract new enthusiasts to the sport of disc golf.

According to WFDF's press release, "Virtual Sport is more important than ever since the pandemic, allowing individuals to participate from the comfort of their own home without the constraints of travel restrictions or lockdowns."

To participate in this exciting event, players must first complete a National Qualifying round between January 17 and February 13. Each country will have a seven-day window during which qualifying rounds can be played. The top male and female player from each country will then represent their nation in the main event on February 19-20.

What sets this competition apart is its accessibility – there's no cost to participate, and no prizes will be awarded apart from the chance at a World Championship title. This innovative format makes it possible for disc golfers from around the world to come together and compete in a unique and thrilling way.
