From Local Club to Global Stage: The Rise of Ace Eagle Disc Golf Club

Ace Eagle Disc Golf Club (AEDGC) has come a long way from its humble beginnings in Evansville, Indiana. Founded by Matt Nance, Mike Weidner, John Barabe, and Ruth Waller, the club's primary goal was to promote and grow disc golf in the tri-state area. Over the years, AEDGC has evolved into a thriving non-profit organization, becoming one of the first PDGA-affiliated clubs in the region.

The club's journey to hosting the 2022 Amateur World Championships (Am Worlds) is a testament to its dedication and hard work. With the support of local organizations such as Dads Fore Disc Golf and tourism boards, AEDGC successfully bid for the event, which will be held on their home courses in Mesker Park.

As the tournament approaches, members of AEDGC share their experiences, from Matt Nance's early days playing disc golf to his current role as park manager for Mesker Park. The club has also welcomed new faces, including Brittney, a female board member who emphasizes the importance of inclusivity and equal opportunities in disc golf.

Steven, the Tournament Director (TD) for Am Worlds, reflects on the process of applying for hosting the event. He notes that the biggest surprise was how much the Major will benefit the local disc golf scene, from course improvements to increased awareness of rules and regulations. Steven's advice to those considering hosting Worlds is clear: "Do it" – with the right support team and a well-prepared bid.

The club's president, also a founder of Dads Fore Disc Golf, expresses his vision for AEDGC's future as a guiding light for the region. He highlights the partnership between AEDGC, local tourism boards, and other organizations in making Am Worlds possible.

As registration opens for the Pumpkin Shootout this year, the disc golf community can look forward to more exciting events hosted by Ace Eagle Disc Golf Club. With their enthusiasm, dedication, and passion, AEDGC continues to grow and promote the sport they love.

In conclusion, the story of Ace Eagle Disc Golf Club serves as an inspiration to clubs and individuals everywhere. From its small beginnings to hosting a global event like Am Worlds, AEDGC's journey showcases the power of community, collaboration, and perseverance in disc golf.
