Doubles Disc Golf Champions Gear Up for Texas Tournament

The PDGA Amateur World Doubles Championship is set to take place in April 2019 in the beautiful towns of Talco and Mt. Vernon, Texas. This year marks the 29th running of this prestigious event, which attracts top doubles teams from across North America, as well as players from Central and South America, Europe, and even the Middle East.

The championship will feature four John Houck-designed courses, including Selah Ranch and Trey Texas Ranch, both known for their challenging holes and stunning views. The tournament will also see the return of talented artist Esther Benedict, who created the custom trophies for 2018's event and will be doing so again this year.

One of the highlights of the event is the community involvement from the Franklin County Chamber of Commerce, which has been instrumental in organizing the tournament. Donna MacFarland, President of the chamber, expressed her enthusiasm for the event, stating that it has put Franklin County/Mount Vernon on the map as a top destination for disc golf enthusiasts.

The championship will feature multiple doubles formats, including Best Throw, Best Score, Alternate Throw, and Worst Throw. While some teams may find themselves struggling with the challenges of these formats, others will relish in the opportunity to showcase their skills. In particular, Worst Throw format requires both teammates to hole out, adding an extra layer of difficulty and excitement to the game.

Tournament Director John Houck is inviting all amateur players who have yet to participate in a PDGA Major to join in on the fun. With plenty of slots still available, now is the perfect time for teams to sign up and get ready for an unforgettable experience.

As Donna MacFarland so aptly put it, "Community volunteers work hard to ensure these players have the best experience during the tournament and beyond." The Franklin County Chamber of Commerce's dedication to hosting this event has created a warm welcome for players from all over the world, making it truly special.
