Disc Golf Duos Gather in Texas for Thrilling Amatuer World Doubles Championships
Date Published

The thrill of doubles is about to hit Texas as some of the world's most passionate disc golf enthusiasts gather for the 25th Amateur World Doubles Championships. This premier tournament takes place on four incredible Houck Design courses, including Selah Ranch's two championship layouts: Selah Lakeside and Selah Creekside.
The championships are organized by Straight Line Discs, who have worked tirelessly to prepare the courses despite record-breaking rainfall in the area. With over 40 inches of rain hitting Texas since the start of the year, the staff has put in hundreds of hours of labor to ensure the courses remain in top condition. The recent downpours may have caused some challenges, but with a little luck and sunshine, this weekend promises to be an unforgettable experience.
As part of the festivities, Jay "Yeti" Reading #15864 and Des Reading #15863 will be hosting pro clinics throughout the weekend. Their Educational Disc Golf Experience (E.D.G.E.) program has gained widespread recognition for its expertise in teaching players of all ages and skill levels. With their unique approach to learning the game, this is an opportunity not to be missed.
The championships feature a range of formats, including Best Shot, Worst Shot, Tough Shot, and Alternate Shot. Each format presents a unique set of challenges that will test even the most experienced teams. But what's Worst Shot exactly? It's often misused as "Tough Shot," but in true Worst Shot format, both teammates must hole out on every shot. Don't get too excited when your teammate makes an ace – you still have to follow it up with one of your own!
The rules for each format are outlined below:
Best Shot is the most popular doubles format, where teams take turns throwing from each lie and then choose which resulting lie to continue play from.
In Worst Shot, both players throw from each lie, and competing teams in the group choose which subsequent lies will be used to make the hole as difficult as possible. The 30-second play clock begins once the opposing teams have selected the lie.
Alternate Shot is a format where only one sequence of throws is made on each hole. The team selects a player to throw the tee shot, and then play alternates in that fashion until the round is completed.
Best Disc (also known as Best Score) sees each player play the hole as they would while playing singles, with no shared lies. The team score is the best score on the hole by one of its players.
The tournament begins tomorrow morning, bright and early, with each team playing two rounds a day on Friday and Saturday. All competitors will get to play all four championship courses at least once. After the rounds on Saturday, the top teams from each division will play a final nine holes on Sunday. Live scoring for the leading teams will begin on Saturday on pdgalive.com.
