Celebrating Unsung Heroes: Nominations Open for Becky Zallek Women's Choice Award

The Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA) Women's Committee is on the hunt for unsung heroes in the world of disc golf. They're launching their annual nomination process to find the next deserving recipient of the Becky Zallek Women's Choice Award, named after a legendary figure in the sport who dedicated her life to promoting inclusivity and fun.

Becky Zallek was a true pioneer in the world of disc golf. During her lifetime, she earned numerous accolades, including induction into the Hall of Fame, Volunteer of the Year, Tournament Director of the Year, Sportswoman of the Year, and a Special Services Award. Her untimely passing in 2013 left a void in the disc golf community, but her legacy lives on through this award.

The Becky Zallek Women's Choice Award is presented to tournament directors who go above and beyond to create an inclusive environment for women players. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated commitment to providing equal opportunities, accommodations, and experiences for female participants at their events. Some key criteria include offering gender-inclusive player packs, streamlining registration processes for women, and selecting courses with accessible layouts.

The inaugural winner of the award was Sara Nicholson in 2022, followed by Madison Tomaino in 2023. The committee is now seeking nominations from active women members who know a deserving tournament director. Check your email inbox later this week to find the nomination form, which will be sent directly to all eligible members.

Nominations will be accepted until February 2, 2025. If you've recently changed your email address or profile information, make sure to update it to ensure you receive the nomination form. The hope is to present the award annually at the United States Women's Disc Golf Championships (USWDGC), scheduled for June in Manitowoc, WI.

The PDGA Women's Committee encourages everyone to take part in this celebration of women-friendly tournament directors and nominate a deserving individual who embodies Becky Zallek's spirit of inclusivity and dedication.
