A Dog For Saul! | Professional Disc Golf Association

A young boy's life is about to get a whole lot brighter with the help of some very special friends - disc golf enthusiasts in Winchester, Kentucky, have joined forces to raise funds for a diabetic service dog that will change three-year-old Saul Sebulsky's life forever. Saul was born with type 1 diabetes, which means his body doesn't produce the insulin it needs to regulate his blood glucose levels. This has led to a host of health problems, including lethargic behavior, extreme sweating, and constant crying.
Thanks to an external insulin pump, Saul is able to manage his condition somewhat, but he still faces the risk of seizures and other serious complications due to high or low blood sugar levels. That's where Ada, a specially trained diabetic service dog, comes in. This incredible animal will be able to detect when Saul's blood glucose levels are off-kilter and alert his parents more quickly than any device can.
The only problem is that this type of specially trained service dog doesn't come cheap - the price tag is approximately $25,000. That's where the disc golf community comes in. On July 6th, two tournaments will be held at Ironworks Hills Disc Golf Course to raise money for Saul's new companion. The first tournament, "Saul's Shootout - Paws for the Cause," will be a PDGA XC Tier event that takes place throughout the day from 9:00 AM until 6:30 PM.
The second tournament, "Saul's NightLight Glow Tournament," will kick off just after dark at approximately 9:30pm and feature an 18-hole glow course. Both events are designed to be fun for all participants, regardless of skill level, and the Bluegrass Disc Golf Association is even donating discs from players to use as prize payouts in both tournaments.
XC Tier TD Lewis Willian, who has a personal connection to type 1 diabetes - his own son was diagnosed at age 13 - is hoping to raise not only money but also awareness about the importance of supporting children with diabetes. "As a parent of a grown type 1 diabetic son, I know firsthand how much help this animal could provide," he says. "I can't imagine how difficult it would have been if my son had been as little as Saul."
So come on down to Ironworks Hills Disc Golf Course on July 6th and join the fun! Your participation will be helping to raise money for a life-saving service dog that will change Saul's life forever.
